Hey,

Quick context first. You bought from me on Gumroad in the past year, so you're the first person I'm sending this to. The Useful Tech is my brand-new email newsletter on getting more out of your Apple devices with AI, apps, and workflows that actually change how your week feels.

I will be sending 2-3 emails every week, and every email will have something specific you can apply the same day to your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or workflow.

If this isn't for you, just hit unsubscribe at the bottom. Zero hard feelings, you won't hear from me again.

If you're staying, here's Issue 01.

ISSUE 01: Claude is now one keystroke away on my Mac (and yours can be too)

I've been using Claude as my main AI assistant for two years. But until a few months ago, I was using it the way most people use it. Open a tab. Type a question. Switch back to whatever I was doing.

That's a friction tax. Every context switch costs about 30 seconds of momentum. Across a day, that's an hour gone to the act of opening tabs.

The fix took 4 minutes to set up. Now Claude is one keystroke away, no matter what app I'm in.

THE 4-MINUTE MAC SETUP

  1. Install Claude Desktop for Mac. Go to claude.ai/download. Grab the .dmg. Drag to Applications. Sign in with the same account you use at claude.ai. Your full chat history syncs over.

  2. Turn on Quick Entry. On first launch, you'll see a prompt asking if you want to enable it. Check the box. Default trigger: double-tap the Option key. To customize: Settings > General > Quick access shortcut. Pick double-tap Option, Option + Space, or your own combo.

  3. Grant Accessibility permission when macOS asks. This is required for the shortcut to work across all apps.

  4. Test it. Switch to any other app. Double-tap Option. A small Claude window pops up over whatever you were doing. Type a question. Get an answer. Hit Esc. You never lost your place.

That's the setup. 4 minutes max.

Now the part that actually matters: what you do with it.

THE 5 THINGS I NOW DO WITH CLAUDE THAT I NEVER USED TO

  1. Mid-task rewrites. Halfway through a Slack message that feels clunky? Select text, double-tap Option, paste it, type "rewrite this clearer and shorter." Paste back. 15 seconds total.

  2. Voice mode for thinking out loud. Enable Voice Dictation in Settings > General. Double-tap Caps Lock. Talk for a minute about a problem you can't quite frame yet. Tap Caps Lock again. Claude responds back. Better than typing when you don't know what to type.

  3. Drag and drop files. Got a PDF, image, or contract on your desktop? Drag it directly into the Claude window. Ask questions. No "let me copy paste this into the browser" friction.

  4. Continue from where you left off. The desktop app keeps your full conversation history. You can be 30 minutes deep into a thinking session, close the window, do something else, come back, and pick up exactly where you left off.

  5. Quick lookup without opening Safari. "What's the difference between async and defer in HTML script tags?" Used to be a Google search, then three Stack Overflow tabs. Now it's a shortcut, a question, an answer. Under 10 seconds.

THE IPHONE EQUIVALENT

Install the Claude iOS app (iOS 18 or later). Then pick your favorite of these four setups:

Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro or later): Settings > Action Button > Controls > Choose a Control > Open Claude. Hold the side button from anywhere.

Lock Screen shortcut: Tap and hold Lock Screen > Customize > Lock Screen > circular slots > Open Claude.

Control Center: Swipe down from top right > tap and hold > Add a Control > Open Claude.

Home Screen widget: Long press home screen > tap + > search Claude > add the widget. Direct buttons for chat, voice, and camera.

All four are 30-second setups. Any one of them puts Claude one tap away.

THE FREE COMPANION GUIDE

I built you a 6-page FREE setup guide with everything above in more detail, plus a bonus iOS Shortcut recipe that summarizes any article from your share sheet.
