Hey friend,
Every WWDC, Apple ships a new feature, and somewhere, a developer quietly closes their laptop and stares at the wall. There's a word for it: getting sherlocked. And this year's round might be the most brutal one yet.
I went through everything Apple announced and found over 20 apps and categories that iOS 27 now replaces natively. Here are the five that hit hardest.
1. Grammarly just lost its everyday users
iOS 27 proofreads your grammar and spelling automatically, across the system, in almost every app. Grammarly's whole consumer pitch was that it checks your writing everywhere. Your iPhone now does that for free. At $144 a year, this is the cancellation most people will actually make.
2. The calorie scanner apps are in real trouble
Apps like Cal AI charge up to $200 a year for one trick: snap a photo of your meal, get nutrition info. Visual Intelligence builds that exact trick into the Camera, free. This might be the single most exposed category of the whole keynote.
3. TouchRetouch built an app around one button. Apple just improved
The upgraded Clean Up tool removes photobombers and distractions with realistic fill, even in complex scenes. The dedicated eraser apps keep the photographers, but the casual crowd is done paying.
4. Safari is coming for the price trackers
Notify Me monitors any page on your behalf and pings you when the price drops or the item is back in stock. That's the entire job of Keepa, CamelCamelCamel, and Honey's alerts, now built into the browser you already use.
5. And the twist nobody saw coming
Siri AI takes aim at ChatGPT and Google Lens... while running on Google's Gemini technology underneath. Apple is using Google's models to sherlock Google's products. I still can't decide if that's genius or absurd.
The full post covers all of them, including Splitwise, 1Password, Fantastical, the wallpaper apps, and an honest take on which apps actually survive getting sherlocked and why.

And here's the part I'm most excited about. I did the math on what all these apps cost and turned it into the Sherlocked Savings Calculator, a free visual guide showing all 12 apps, their real prices, what you keep and lose by canceling, and a clear verdict for each. If you pay for even three or four of these, it could save you a few hundred dollars before your next renewal.
