You have already read the recap. iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199, a folding iPhone called Duo at $1,999, new Watches, new AirPods. Every site on the internet published that within an hour and there is no reason for me to publish it again.

So here are five things from Wednesday that the coverage mostly skipped, and they all change a decision you are about to make. Pre-orders open tomorrow.

Every headline said $100. That is true of the base model and nothing else.

The jump from 512GB to 1TB now costs you $400 for one doubling. On the Pro Max the same 1TB tier went from $1,599 to $1,899, and the 2TB reaches $2,499.

The practical advice: 512GB is the sweet spot this year and 1TB is the worst value in the lineup. If you were a 1TB buyer out of habit, buy 512GB and put the $400 somewhere useful. And check before you assume you will get that money back later, because Apple's trade-in values have not historically distinguished between storage tiers.

This is the part that annoyed me most, because the entire internet reported an American number as though it were the number.

The increase is roughly 8.5% in the UAE, around $100 in the US, £100 in the UK, and C$150 in Canada. In India and Japan it is about 22%. Here that works out to roughly ₹30,000 more than the iPhone 17 Pro, on a like-for-like 256GB model.

Same phone, same silicon, same launch. A US buyer absorbs a single-digit percentage increase. An Indian buyer absorbs more than a fifth. If you have been reading the coverage and wondering why the price on Apple India's site felt worse than everyone online seemed to think, that is why. You were not imagining it.

Pre-orders open Saturday, September 12, at 5:00am Pacific, 1:00pm in the UK, 5:30pm in India, and 9:00pm in Japan. The phones reach stores on September 18 in more than 65 countries, with another 20 markets following on September 25.

But the product everyone is actually curious about is not in that queue. The iPhone Duo does not open for pre-order until October 16, and ships October 23. That is six weeks after the announcement.

So there is no reason to set an alarm unless you specifically want a Pro on day one. And if you want a Duo, you have six weeks to read real reviews written by people who have held one, which is a luxury foldable buyers almost never get.

Here is the genuinely buried story from Wednesday.

Siri AI is the headline feature of iOS 27. It arrives Monday. And Apple has confirmed that the features relying on server-side models carry daily usage limits, with expanded paid access reportedly arriving in 2027.

Read that again. Apple's flagship assistant, on the phone you already bought, is rate-limited, and there is a paid tier coming. That is a meaningful shift in what "it just works" means, and it got perhaps a paragraph in most coverage.

For the large majority of you, the important date this month is not the pre-order and it is not the 18th.

iOS 27 arrives Monday, September 14, free, along with iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate. It runs on the iPhone 11 and later, which is the same list as iOS 26, so nobody is being cut off this year.

More than 250 changes, on a phone you already own, for nothing. Set against a $1,199 handset whose main advantages are a camera improvement and a chip you will not feel, that is where the actual upgrade is this month.

One caution: do not install it on Monday morning if that phone is the one you work from. Wait for the first patch, which historically lands within one to three weeks. Nothing in there is worth a broken Tuesday.

Short version, and you can disagree with me.

Yes if your phone is three or more years old, or the battery has become a daily problem. That is a real upgrade and you will feel it every day.

No if you have an iPhone 17 Pro. Same dimensions, same materials, same build. You are paying $1,199 for an incremental camera and a chip improvement you will not notice.

Wait if you wanted a standard iPhone. There is no iPhone 18 on Apple's site. The regular model, the 18e and the next Air are expected around spring 2027. Six months is a long time to be told nothing, but it beats spending $1,199 on a Pro you did not want.

Whatever you decide tomorrow, decide it on the storage tier rather than the colour. That is the one that costs real money.
